Grilled Caprese sandwich.

Caprese salad originated in the Campania region in the south-west of Italy. There, unlike most salads, it is usually served as an antipasto or starter. Throughout Italy, it is known as the three-colored salad and is said to be the most patriotic of Italian salads as its colors are the same as the Italian flag – red, white and green.

If you like fresh Caprese salad, you’ll love this deli-style sandwich.

Ingredients:
Ciabatta roll (split in half)
Extra virgin olive oil
Fresh Mozzarella (sliced ¼-inch thick)
Tomato (sliced ¼-inch thick)
Fresh basil leaves (trim off stems)
Balsamic vinegar
Coarse salt and ground pepper

Directions:
Heat a grill or grill pan to medium-high. Brush split rolls with oil and toast on grill until soft.

Layer
mozzarella, tomato and basil on bottom half of roll. Sprinkle with vinegar. Add salt and pepper to taste. Place top of roll on sandwich and serve with pepperoncini peppers and chips on the side.
